Componentized Architecture and Cloud: The Importance of Partnership

The new Group CIO at TD put forth a number of disruptive targets to his organization; one of them was an ambitious move to a Private Cloud.

The challenges of this project were immense and fall into three categories

•             Financial: Extracting ROI from a Private Cloud above plain virtualization

•             Organizational: Effecting the organizational change needed to allow for the efficient use of the new paradigm

•             Technical: The Private Cloud space is changing at a breathtaking speed and the constant churn creates fissures and technical problems that need to be continuously addressed

Our analysis led us away from an implementation of a large full-service solution and towards a componentized architecture of mostly Open Source projects, that we integrated in record time. Breaking down the architecture to best-of-breed components had tremendous advantages in agility, but it introduced a large number of moving parts from different vendors.  We succeeded because of the partnerships that were created in the process.

In this talk, we will share our experiences and lessons learned.
