As Rackspace has grown the footprint of it's Public Cloud from a few hundred nodes in 3 regions to 10's of thousands (and growing) running in 6 global locations, we've had to make choices along the way.  Some of them were, even by our own assessment, pretty crazy!  In this talk, we'll dive into a few of them, explain why we made each decision, what we gained from it, what trouble (if any) it caused us and our future plans in each of these areas.  Areas we'll explore may include:

 

- The decision to build and use Cells

- Running our Control Plane nodes in a Cloud

- Running Computes as Vms

- Using Neutron at scale with cells

- Not using an OpenStack project for all the things
