Managed Services is a top use-case for which all global telcos want to improve operational efficiency and accelerate time-to-market. However, there are challenges in simplifying and automating end-to-end service delivery, including secure Day-0 provisioning of the customer premise devices, pervasive and secure connectivity to the data centers / POPs / COs, and elastic scaling and management/troubleshooting of on-demand network and security services. Emerging Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and the Telco Cloud deployments have started, however, true end-to-end automation and a seamless experience for the end-users has been lacking. Carrier-grade requirements of scale, reliability and solution-level maturity requires a level of integration and continuous interoperability testing that challenges early production NFV solution.

In this presentation, we will talk about how NTT is in the process of implementing one of industry's first such fully automated managed services offerings using OpenStack and other key open-source technologies. We will discuss the key features and benefits of the  solution, covering both business aspects (e.g. rapid deployment for faster time to market, stability for greater uptime, on-demand service creation) and technical aspects (e.g. native architecture for hyperscale, full high-availability, horizontal scale-out to handle peak loads).  Finally, we will highlight some of the key technical and business challenges encountered in deploying such a solution and how to maximize success.
