Swift vs Ceph from an Architectural Standpoint

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Ceph may not be an "official" OpenStack project, but it's common enough in OpenStack deployments that our Architectural Design Assessments often include a discussion of Ceph versus Swift, and Ceph versus other Cinder backends. This talk will go into detail on how to design a storage infrastructure that fulfills the requirements of the project without breaking the bank.

In this session, you'll learn about:

  • Differences and common features

  • Multiple storage protocols in one cluster

  • Multi region deployments

  • Performance vs Cost

  • Erasure Coding

  • Resilience

  • How to choose - criteria for success

  • The basics of nonstandard deployments (NAS backends)

After attending this talk, you'll understand where Ceph fits into the OpenStack storage picture, and how to design an appropriate storage infrastructure for your project.
